| The Alternative Truth Moments: Chapter 1 Warnings: There may be a slight bit of confusion because of the Alternate Reality bit. And a main character is dead in the AR. Author's Notes: This is the first fanfic I've ever had the courage to post, anywhere. I'm really not a good writer, imagery wise, so bear with me. Disclaimer: I don't make any money period so I'm sure as hell not making any money from this. I'm just borrowing the characters (from a whole list of people: MGM, Gekko Productions, etc.etc. I'm surprised these characters don't have major identity crises!) for a short while and I'll return them as soon as I'm done. Well, except for Daniel. I might ask him to stick around for a while. *G* Feedback: Yes please. I'd like to know if this is any good and if there are any major mistakes that ruin the whole thing. Constructive criticism is always welcome, flames will be read and then sent to cyber-hell - I believe in freedom of speech, I just won't pay any attention to it! Key: / = thoughts; italics = emphasised words Part One "Well, there's nothing here!" /Trust Jack to take one glance around and immediately decide nothing's here! Suppose his idea of nothing is no people with guns waiting to attack us. He can spot them a mile away but Jack could stand in a room full of artifacts and......hey, what do we have here?/ "Er, guys?" Daniel walked over to what looked like a full length mirror. His teammates followed. "Isn't that.........?" "An alternate reality mirror" Sam interrupted Jack. "Look!" As they stood there watching the alternate version of the room they were standing in they saw......... Daniel back into the room with two Jaffa pointing their staff weapons at him. Jack automatically turned around, gun ready, to see where the 'reflection' was coming from. "Oh, I don't know if I want to watch this" Daniel turned around and shut his eyes tight.
"Maybe you don't have to." Sam put a reassuring hand on his shoulder. "Carter, what are you suggesting?" Jack was already sounding worried at what his 2IC was about to say. "We could go and help Dan....., that Daniel out. Just step through the mirror, take out the Jaffa and step back." "Would we beable to get back? Are we absolutely certain Carter?" Jack was right. He needed to be worried, but he wanted to help his friend no matter what reality he was in. Daniel opened his eyes and turned around to face Jack. He made sure his back was to the mirror. "As long as no-one turns the mirror off or ....over" he raised an eyebrow momentarily, as if to ask himself if that was the right term, "then we should be fine" "Should be?" Jack raised a questioning eyebrow. "Okay, will be Jack. We will be fine." "What about having two Daniels in the same reality? Isn't that going to be a problem?" All of a sudden Jack was faced with two expressions of disbelief. Teal'c was somewhat pre-occupied. "What? I'm just trying to look out for my team. I do want to help that Daniel, but not at the risk of our Daniel!" The expressions disappeared and Daniel replaced his with a determined stare. "I'm willing to take the risk." "There won't be any risk. Remember when an alternate Samantha Carter turned up in our reality?" Sam cut in before Jack started complaining about the chance of a risk although she wasn't exactly sure why. She didn't want Daniel to be put in danger anymore than the Colonel did, but she couldn't just stand by and watch Daniel die. Okay, so they were different Daniels but........this was screwing up her mind. Her thoughts were broken by the voice of her CO. "I remember one of you ending up in the infirmary. And I remember....." "Anyway, Sir, as long as they don't stay in very close proximity to each or interact too much they should be fine." "There's that 'should be' again!" "Will be, sir" Carter was getting more than a little annoyed now, but USAF training and three years of being under Colonel O'Neill's command kept it out of her voice, just. "Okay, you hear that Danny? No getting up close and personal!" Daniel shot Jack a sideways glance of annoyance with a touch of disappointment. He thought about how interesting it would be swapping information about their discoveries and seeing how many they had in common. Jack's expression in return hid some relief and joy that he wouldn't have to listen to two of the archaeologists discussing rocks. Jack then went back to the matter at hand. "Right, here's the deal. We go through, take out those Jaffa and come back. Everyone agreed?" "Well, what if the rest of the.....?" "Daniel! Apophis could be on that planet for all we know! We go in there, save your, um, his butt and then come back. Is that clear?" Jack pinned Daniel with a 'these are my orders and you're going to follow them!' glare. "Yes Jack." Daniel said through gritted teeth. At least if he agreed now that would get them through. Once there he could persuade Jack to help some more, if required. "Good. Carter?" "Yes sir." "Teal'c?" "I concur Colonel O'Neill." Until now, Teal'c had been watching the alternate reality intensely, looking for signs of more Jaffa and ensuring that the alternate Daniel was still alive. Amongst the discussion, his human teammates had forgotten to check if the situation indeed still required their intervention. It did, for now. "O'Neill, I believe we must move quickly." "Okay, after three kids. One, two, three!" All four of them touched the mirror together and the slight shock passed through them. When they had recovered they took cover behind some tables. The Jaffa were now pushing their staff weapons into alternate Daniel's chest. Alternate Daniel was looking at them directly in the eyes, his own burning with rage. Jack ordered Teal'c and Carter to take left flank whilst he and Daniel took right. After another count of three they took the Jaffa out, leaving a confused alternate Daniel standing in the middle of the room. Jack came out of cover and Daniel flinched a little. His stare became fixed on Jack. "Jack?" The alternate Daniel's voice was filled with surprise and disbelief. "Yep" Jack barely had time to answer before he had Daniel in his arms, hugging him tightly. "It's so good to see you again." Jack almost choked on the pure emotion in those words. Then Daniel pulled back. "But how?" "Okay so I guess you know me then?" It was a statement more than a question but the hurt look on Daniel's face told him that more explanation was required, and quick. He was just about to launch into that explanation when Sam came out from behind her table, followed by Teal'c. "Samantha!" Alternate Daniel moved towards Sam quickly, cupped her face in his hands and kissed her passionately. Part Two Sam crumbled at Daniel's touch almost immediately. She allowed his tongue entrance and moved her hands to his sides. Then she realised exactly what they were doing and where they were doing it. Coming to her senses, she pushed alternate Daniel away, breaking the kiss. She opened her eyes to find that hurt and confused expression again. "Um, Daniel, we're from an alternate reality. Jack, myself, Teal'c....". Sam miraculously found her voice. When she had mentioned Teal'c and gestured towards him, alternate Daniel had almost leaped back. "He's Jaffa." Daniel grabbed Sam's side arm and raised it at Teal'c. "Indeed DanielJackson. In our reality I was First Prime to Apophis." Teal'c was unphased by the weapon, trusting that DanielJackson would not hurt him, even if he was from a different reality. "And now?" Alternate Daniel was still suspicious. "I betrayed Apophis and joined the Tau'ri in the fight against the Goa'uld." Teal'c answered with little expression but his calm voice seemed to convince Daniel He lowered the gun. "Daniel?" When Sam realised that alternate Daniel was just about accepting Teal'c, alot more easily than she'd thought actually, she decided to introduce their Daniel. "This is Daniel, from our reality." During the whole hugging-Jack thing Daniel had stood inconspicuously in the background. When the alternate Daniel had kissed Sam, his reality's Sam, as if they were a couple of young lovers, Daniel had felt embarrassed, uncomfortable and, something else. /Guess you would feel a little weird if you just saw yourself kiss one of your best friends!/ Now Daniel was more fascinated by meeting himself. He was walking towards the other Daniel, wanting, maybe, to shake his hand. "Not too close!" Jack ruined the moment. Both Daniels froze, just looking at each other. After a small silence Jack got a little worried. "Um, Danny-boys?" They both turned to look at Jack with the same annoyed expression. "Jack!!" They also spoke together. That was enough for Jack to know that they were fine. "Alright, listen. You two need to sort out who's gonna be called what 'cause I'm already confused with calling you both Daniel! I suggest keeping it easy, like 'Daniel 1' and 'Daniel 2' since I doubt either of you are going to volunteer to be called Danny, right?" "Er yes, actually." Alternate Daniel said. "I don't mind being called Danny, Samantha calls me it all the time. "O-kay, Danny it is." Jack looked surprised for a second and glanced at Carter before pushing it aside. "Now neither of you stay too close to each other and don't talk to each other unless absolutely necessary." They both opened their mouths to protest but Jack cut them off. "Ah, that includes synchronized moaning!" "O'Neill!" Teal'c was standing by the door to the room. "We must take cover!" Teal'c immediately grabbed the fallen Jaffa and dragged them out of sight. The rest of SG-1 and Danny took cover. They saw two Jaffa walk past the door dragging Sam between them. Danny gasped "Samantha" and went to run out but Jack grabbed him before he could move. "You two are too alike in some respects" Jack commented in Danny's ear. After the Jaffa had gone he let Danny go. "Look, we'll help you get her back but first we need some information on the situation on this planet. Teal'c, can you take a quiet wander after those guys? Find out where they're going and if they've got any friends. Watch your back!" Teal'c nodded and left the room. He hadn't understood the phrases that O'Neill had used but he'd understood what was wanted of him. After Teal'c left, Danny sighed. "What do you need to know?" "How many Jaffa are here? Is Apophis is around?" "Apophis is dead. We, well Jack, killed him last year. Just before he died. That's why I was so surprised to see you Jack." Danny paused for a moment, trying to block out the pain of losing his best friend. Then he continued. "I don't know Teal'c at all. He was never with Apophis and I've never met him anywhere." He shook us head. "Then there's Samantha." Suddenly realisation hit Danny. Danny looked up towards Sam "I'm sorry for, uh hm...." Danny raised his eyebrows guiltily, hoping that he wouldn't have to spell it out. Sam nodded in comprehension. "I didn't think. Too happy and relieved, I guess" A sad smile crossed his, and everyone else's, faces. Then he shifted his gaze towards Daniel. "Sorry Daniel, didn't mean to move in there." "Um, you weren't moving in on anything." Daniel quickly replied. "We're not, uh, together." Sam added. "And you can call me Sam." "Oh, okay" Danny was confused again. If they weren't together then why did she let him kiss her at all? He glanced quickly at Daniel, who seemed very interested in the floor - something that Danny also did when he wanted to hide something - and then returned his attention back to Jack. "We've got to get her back, Jack." Danny was almost pleading, his voice not higher than a whisper. This time it was his gaze that dropped to the floor. "It's alright Danny, we'll get her back." Jack was in reassurance mode, the one that he'd used when he'd told Daniel that they'd get Sha'uri back. That time he failed, he wasn't going to fail again. Thinking about Sha'uri....... "Uh, Danny, what happened to Sha'uri?" Daniel looked up when he heard that question. All he'd seemed able to think about so far, for some reason unknown to him, was Sam. He'd completely forgotten about Sha'uri and where she might fit into all this. He wasn't prepared for what was coming next though. "Who's Sha'uri?" It was definitely Danny who'd asked, and this time Daniel had to answer. "Was it you who figured out how to work the Gate?" Danny nodded. "And did you go on the first mission to Abydos?" "Abydos? No, our first mission was to P3X 972. We found Ernest, a person who'd gone through the Gate some fifty years ago. He was Katherine's fiance. Katherine is...." "The daughter of the person who found the Gate?" Daniel was a little taken aback by these revelations. Danny nodded again in reply and Daniel continued. "Katherine approached me about translating the Gate five years ago. That's when Jack and I went to Abydos and I met, and married, Sha'uri." Daniel was intrigued at how differently the Stargate Program had begun in this reality. "Where is she now?" Danny had to know, for some reason. "She's dead". Daniel said it with little emotion. He had loved her, always would in a way, but he was used to the idea now and wanted to get on with his life. Sam felt the sudden need to turn away but, thankfully, no-one noticed her movements. "Sorry" It was all that Danny could offer. "Thank you, but it's in the past and right now we need to get your present back on track." "Right" Jack agreed. He was just about getting to the point where he was regretting bringing Sha'uri up, but it had been interesting. Not helpful with getting 'Samantha' back though. "Danny, how many Jaffa?" "These two, and the two that took Samantha plus there were another two and that's all I saw." "There appears to be two guarding Major Carter in a room and two guarding the entrance to this building." Teal'c had re-entered the room just as Jack had asked Danny about the Jaffa again. "Is Samantha okay?" Danny's voice was full of hope and worry. "Major Carter appears to be uninjured. However, she is refusing to answer the Jaffa's questions. Her situation will get worse." Daniel stared at Teal'c with disbelief before walking over to him. He whispered quietly "Teal'c, remind me to teach you about tact when we get back." Teal'c just nodded his head in acceptance. Danny's gaze had dropped again. Tears threatened his eyes. "It's Colonel." he stated quietly. "She got promoted after Jack......" "Carter's a Colonel?" Jack didn't want to hear about his death again. "Um, no. Jackson's a Colonel. Colonel Jackson. We got married too" Danny was still examining the floor. Both Sam and Daniel were shocked by this new information. They both paced a little, slowly and nervously, glancing at each other but avoiding eye-contact. For some reason, this development had made them both feel extremely awkward. Jack gave himself a mental shake and then focussed. "Right so that's two votes for four serpent heads. Okay, we free Carter, er........." /rethink/ "Jackson, ummm.........." /another rethink/ "Sam-antha first and take care of those two then we take out the other two and see what's outside. What about the rest of your team Danny?" Jack had only just realised that there must have been some other people here with 'the Jacksons'. "They were killed as examples. The Jaffa didn't need them but apparently they needed Samantha and me for.... something." Danny's look was distant.. "So, we get Car-Samantha, get you both to the Gate safely and then get back here to the mirror. Sounds easy enough! Let's move out kids!" Danny had to smile. He missed Jack and his phrases, and even his sarcasm at times. He'd lost Jack, and now he'd lost half of his new team. He wasn't going to lose his wife aswell. Part Three They made their way to the room where Samantha was being held. She was sitting against the back wall, looking very stubborn and resisting all threats from the Jaffa, whose backs were to the door. Jack and Teal'c took care of the Jaffa with their zats easily and quickly, and then went to help Samantha up. "Who are you?" Samantha asked, not allowing herself to believe her eyes. Before Jack could answer, Samantha was running past him and towards Daniel. She threw her arms around his neck and hugged him tight. Daniel was trying to push her away, without success. Then he realised he wasn't really trying. /Why not? Okay, not the right time for analysis of actions/ Taking a deep breath, Daniel really did push her away this time. "Er, Samantha, Danny is...." Danny entered the room quickly. "Samantha!" By now Samantha had removed herself from Daniel with a quiet apology and walked towards Danny. They embraced for what seemed like a very long time and then kissed each other gently but passionately. Everyone looked away in either embarrassment or respect, except Sam, who had walked in on the kiss and stood there almost staring in surprise. It was bad enough being kissed by Danny, watching the live show was even worse since she could actually think enough to realise that there was suddenly an unusual feeling in her stomach. It was almost pain - no - more like that dull ache that had been there for a while now but was suddenly worse. /Why am I feeling like this? Must be a stomach bug./ Sam dismissed her thinking even though she knew deep down that her conclusion was just a way of ignoring the real reason. Janet would have detected a stomach bug, especially one that had been there for months now. Sam was snapped out of her thoughts by the sound of.......her own voice? When Samantha and Danny parted, it was Samantha's turn to look confused. "Danny, who are.....uh? That's me!" Samantha had just spotted Sam over Danny's shoulder. "Um, close" Whoa, Sam's voice was getting good at covering up awkward situations today. "We're from an alternate reality." "Ahhhh!" Suddenly Daniel collapsed to the ground, clutching his head between his hands. Sam was at his side almost immediately. "Daniel! Daniel, are you alright?" Daniel was conscious, but his head hurt like hell. "Um, I think so. My head hurts a lot! Ahhhhh!" Another agonising yell was almost too much for Sam. She hated seeing Daniel in pain and the grimace on his face made it all the more worse. "See, you talked too much." There was Jack's sarcasm again. Then concern filled his voice. "Carter, get Daniel back to the room with the mirror. Here, take a staff." Jack tossed a staff weapon to Carter. "Wait there for us. Teal'c and I will take Danny and Samantha back to the Gate and get them home." "Yes sir" Carter helped Daniel up. Danny and Samantha looked on in concern. "Take care Daniel!" Danny yelled from the other side of the room. Daniel whispered something to Sam. "He says, you too!" Sam replied on Daniel's behalf. Then it was Samantha's turn. "Thank you for helping us. Take care of him Sam!" Samantha smiled, her true meaning flashing in her eyes. Danny had managed to tell his wife that Sam and Daniel weren't an item in their reality but Samantha was convinced that was temporary. When Danny had asked why she just put it down to woman's instinct. Sam gave a small smile back. "I will. Good luck" With that, she helped Daniel out of the room, checking the corridor was clear in both directions first. Teal'c and Jack checked the corridor after them and went in the other direction. Samantha, now armed with Teal'c's zat, and Danny, carrying Sam's side-arm, followed. Sam and Daniel reached the mirror room without a problem. After they had left the others, Daniel had started to feel a bit better. The increased distance between him and Danny seemed to help. Sam secured the room and then they sat down behind the tables next to the mirror, where they had cover, but could also watch the door. Daniel sat against the wall, Sam sat against the table. They were facing each other, but both were examining their own feet. "Well, this is a little weird." Sam broke the tense silence, something she'd never experienced with Daniel before. "Isn't it?" Daniel said in an agreeing tone. He looked up with a forced smile on his face as he said it, then quickly returned his eyes to his laces. He was sure he was blushing. Another silence followed. The atmosphere between them was not only awkward, but totally intense. Neither of them could relax. Finally Sam couldn't stand it any longer. She had to start a conversation. "So, this has been quite successful. So far" Lame she knew, but she couldn't think of anything else to say. "Yeah, it's been better than my first experience with alternate realities. So far." They both laughed lightly at that comment. It was hardly surprising considering the first time Daniel went to an AR, he saw the world get destroyed by the Goa'uld. Daniel stopped laughing first, although not for the reasons Sam was thinking, at least he hoped she wasn't thinking them. Watching Sam laugh, Daniel had realised just how radiant she looked. Blue eyes dancing with joy, blonde hair falling forward onto her face, lips curved up into a big smile. She ran a hand through her hair, revealing her whole face yet again. When Sam stopped laughing shortly after, he realised that he'd been staring and quickly turned to look at the mirror. /Yes, a change of subject!/ "At least the mirror's still set on our reality" Daniel avoided eye contact with Sam. She noticed immediately but let it slip - she'd had the same off of the Colonel after the last two realities and it hadn't lasted long with him. Sam was sure it would last even less with Daniel. /That's if it's as one-sided this time as before/ Whoa, where did that come from? Sam noticed that Daniel was waiting for an answer. /Think Major, what was he saying? The mirror - right!/ "How do you know, for sure. Most of them would probably look the same." Sam then realised what she was saying. She hadn't thought about leaving something to distinguish their reality from the others incase it had been changed. Luckily, a certain archaeologist had. "See that piece of paper with the Greek lettering on it?" Daniel was smiling now. Sam looked at the mirror and saw the paper. She smiled too and dropped her head, shaking it slightly in amazement. /He's so intelligent./ "So, what's it say?" Sam was smiling right into Daniel's eyes now, and he was smiling back. This was better, more comfortable and relaxed. "It says 'Here is where the heart is'. I thought it would be intriguing enough to confuse anybody who could actually read it from this side." Sam was impressed again. Then that feeling in her stomach was back, worse than ever, and something inside her clicked. It was Daniel. Daniel was causing that ache in her stomach. It was like hunger; but not for food, for Daniel. Sam lost the ability to make eye-contact again. She and Daniel had built up a close friendship during the past three years but there were times when Sam had thought about it going further, although then Sha'uri had always been a factor. When Sha'uri died, Sam had let her mind wander over the idea again and she had felt so guilty she'd convinced herself that there wasn't, and never would be, anything more than friendship between them. Actually she'd done so well that she'd started to believe the feelings she had for Daniel were just a confused mix of care and concern. To her, this was the truth. Her 'truth' had just been shattered. Daniel realised that he'd lost Sam after he'd translated the Greek message. One minute she was smiling at him, the next she was looking at the floor again. The awkward silence was back and this time Daniel found himself thinking about that moment earlier, when Samantha had hugged him thinking he was Danny. He remembered how good it felt holding Samantha in his arms and never wanting to let go, despite the fact that it was under false pretenses. That was the only reason he'd been able to push her away and that look in her eyes afterwards had absolutely crushed him. He never, ever wanted to cause that look in Sam's eyes ever again. /Wait a minute, I never have done it! Samantha was hurt because she thought her husband was rejecting her. I'm not Sam's husband, I'm not even dating her! Owww!/ That little fact he'd practically just had to yell inside his own head made Daniel feel suddenly empty. He'd come to think of Sam as one of his closest friends. When Sha'uri was killed, it was Sam that wouldn't leave him alone to deal with it, always making sure she was there when he needed to talk. Daniel had felt empty after Sha'uri's death, and Sam had filled that emptiness. He'd believed that as long as Sam was his friend, and nothing more, he wouldn't feel that emptiness ever again. To him, this was the total truth, and yet now he was empty again even though Sam was still his friend. It wasn't enough. He wanted......., he needed more. His 'truth' had fallen apart. When Sam and Daniel had realised their own feelings, the atmosphere became almost suffocative with tension. They both knew that they had to find out how the other was feeling. Slowly, they lifted their heads until their eyes met. His were narrowed and gently questioning; hers were wide and tearful in reply. That one look conveyed all either of them needed to know. They closed the small gap between them slowly, never breaking eye-contact. Daniel licked his lips nervously and Sam was gently chewing on her lower lip. They kept moving closer until their lips were only inches away from each other. Daniel lifted his hand and lightly brushed a strand of hair away from Sam's face before gently resting the hand on her cheek. They moved closer, eyes closed in anticipation. Then....... "BANG!!" The door slammed open. Part Four After Sam and Daniel had left, Jack, Teal'c, Danny and Samantha had headed towards the entrance to the building. There, they found the two Jaffa that Teal'c and Danny had mentioned. Jack and Samantha walked further towards them, trying to get a better look outside. They couldn't see anymore Jaffa, or any sign of a Goa'uld ship. All they could see was the gate, almost immediately outside the exit. Satisfied with what they saw, Jack and Samanthat took out the two Jaffa, and beckoned Teal'c and Danny to make a run for the Gate. They managed to make it to the DHD without any trouble but as Danny finished dialling the address swarms of Jaffa appeared from behind the facility. Jack and Samantha gave cover fire from the entrance.
"Danny, get throught that Gate!" Samantha yelled the order in her best military command voice. "Na-ha, not without you!" Danny yelled back with the usual defiance of orders. /So Samantha got it too!/ Jack thought. /At least I'm not the only one who gets stick off of a Daniel Jackson!/ Danny wasn't about to leave his wife on a planet with loads of Jaffa closing in. Jack gave Teal'c an attack signal and a countdown with his fingers. When Jack reached zero he made a fist and both he and Teal'c began shooting at the Jaffa. Jack took the right flank, Teal'c the left and they were both firing non-stop from the weapons they held in both hands. When Jack was satisfied that the Jaffa were under control, he yelled at Samantha to run. "Samantha, go!!!" "Thank you, Jack" Jack caught the look in her eyes - a mixture of sorrow and gratitude. "Take care." She gave him a soft, quick kiss on the cheek before running towards the DHD where her husband was waiting. Danny gave Jack a wave, one outward movement of his hand that he and his Jack had always used, accompanied by the same expression as Samantha. Then they both turned to Teal'c. "Thank you Teal'c." "Your welcome DanielJackson" Teal'c was still concentrating on the few Jaffa still standing. "Maybe we'll be lucky enough to run into you in this reality one day." "If that indeed happens, Colonel Jackson, then I would advise you to take caution. I am, most likely, not against the Goa'uld in this reality." Teal'c's voice dropped a little. "Maybe you could convince me otherwise." Danny and Samantha both smiled. They each put a hand on the Jaffa's shoulders. "We'll certainly try." Danny was sincere, and for a moment thought about how hopeless the situation must be for a Jaffa serving Gods that he doesn't believe in. Meanwhile Samantha was sending the GDO code. "Ready?" Samantha broke Danny's thoughts and he nodded his agreement. With one last look at Jack, who answered with a slight nod, they ran for the Gate. Teal'c and Jack upped their efforts to stop the Jaffa from injuring the two scientists and succeeded. When the Gate shut off, Teal'c ran back to where Jack was defending from. Jack took a grenade from his jacket and pulled the pin. He laid it on the ground and told Teal'c to run. As they ran back down the corridor, the explosion shook the building and collapsed the entrance. They reached the room with the mirror and Jack flung open the door. BANG!! Sam and Daniel shot back from each other. Their eyes flew open and locked in gaze. "Carter, Daniel?" Jack yelled as loud as he could, breathing hard from the sprint down the corridor. Sam still held Daniel's eyes with her own as she answered. "Here Sir!" Both pairs of eyes showed surprise and hesitation. /What were we about to do?/ Sam's was asking herself before realising that the Colonel was sounding a little out of breath. She quickly broke the contact with Daniel and stood up. Her actions seemed to pull Daniel out of his thoughts too and he stood up behind her. "There you are! Let's go kids, there are hundreds of Jaffa out there!" Jack ran to the mirror. "Did Danny and Samantha get to the Gate alright?" Daniel realised he hadn't asked after them yet. "They are fine DanielJackson. They went through the Gate uninjured and no Jaffa followed them" Teal'c answered with efficiency as always and Daniel was glad of the fact. Then the sound of the heavy metal footsteps filled the room. "Okay, lets go. One, two, three...." Jack gave the order and they all touched the mirror together. When they recovered back in their own reality, they backed off from the mirror as several Jaffa burst into the room they had just occupied. They were heading towards the mirror. "Teal'c." Jack only said his name but Teal'c knew exactly what was wanted of him. He aimed his staff weapon at the mirror and shot once. The energy blast spread along the mirror's surface before it shut off. SG-1 stood there quietly for a moment, staring at the mirror but not really seeing it. They were each thinking of their alternate others in the reality they had just left. Jack was thinking about how he was dead /Ha, get your head around that Mackenzie!/; Teal'c was wondering who he was and what he was doing. If he wasn't First Prime to Apophis, or a member of the SGC then where indeed was he? Sam and Daniel were both replaying that scene in their heads. They had almost kissed. The friendship they had built over the past few years had almost changed in the space of a couple of minutes, without either of them giving it a second thought. Was it really that easy? After being just friends for so long, could there be anything more between them? They were about to find out. Their friendship hadn't almost changed back there, it had changed. They had been too close to taking the next step and now they had to face the consequences. The past few years of enforced ignorance on both sides made them believe that neither of them felt more for each other than they did for Jack and Teal'c. To them, that was the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Except now they'd uncovered an Alternative Truth. ~~The End~~ Go to Moments, Chapter 2: Moments of Madness Feedback: tk@ahkay.net
